2-2-10 Rahm Emanuel- 1st Amendment “overrated”- are the Justices R…s too?

Rahm Emanuel calls the 1st amendment “overrated”

In an article on newsbusters.org, Rahm Emanuel is quoted as saying, about the 1st amendment “When you think about the First Amendment, you think it’s highly overrated.

and while I don’t care for SEIU, they do at least represent workers, however in a very lefty way. but the major corporations do not represent workers rights, they represent profit and thomas jefferson said these entities know no country. they see ….. Rahm Emanuel said a few days ago, “When you think about the First Amendment, you think it’s highly overrated.” The opinion made by the Justices today is a good one. A fair one. Now, as the liberals are always yammering,

I wonder if he would call the Justices the R word for voting to uphold the 1st amendment.  You’d think a man who has such a liberal tongue, dropping F bombs in the halls of congress to force congressmen to vote for his Freddie Mac special favors, would treasure the 1st amendment.  I guess not

ObamaCare or stop the Iran Nuclear Bomb?  What should congress be concentrating on?  Here is part of an article which appeared on http://browncoalition.ning.com

Iran Gas Emgargo languishes-

A little more than one month ago, the US House of Representatives passed legislation that would ban the exporting of refined gas to Iran in an effort to put pressure on the Iran regime to stop building a nuclear bomb. According to the National Iranian American Alliance, this bill passed with overwhelming support

House Approves Gasoline Embargo
Written by Matt Sugrue
Wednesday, 16 December 2009

Washington, DC - The U.S. House of Representatives last night passed the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (H.R. 2194) by a vote of 412 – 12, with 4 voting present. IRPSA targets Iran’s ability to import refined petroleum, which accounts for up to forty percent of the petroleum consumed in the country. Speaking in support of the sanctions bill, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), said “we must impose sanctions so painful they threaten the [Iranian] regime’s survival.”

The overriding opinion expressed by supporters of IRPSA was that sanctions are necessary as a result of failure to reach a diplomatic solution since talks began in October. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) supported H.R. 2194 saying that Iran has ignored the nuclear enrichment offers put forward by the P5+1 countries, and, therefore, the time has come for “the international community to consider stronger options.”

ObamaCare on Life Support- from the collapse of the Senate Bill to the last resort- reconciliation- has Obama shot his political capital already?

ObamaCare on Life Support- from the collapse of the Senate Bill to the last resort- reconciliation- has Obama shot his political capital already?

With the election of Scott Brown, and now the opening up of the politcal war coffers on the right through the death of Mccain-Feingold, dems are running scared from their own far left agenda.  Witness the recent machinations in the ObamaCare wars.

Pelosi has announced she can’t pass the Senate bill through the House.  Barney Frank, whose MA district voted for Scott Brown,  is calling for a reboot, and they are now down to the last desperate act, but one that will, in essense, require them to take ObamaCare through both the House and the Senate again, reconciliation.

Here was their attempt to cram the bill through the House to avoid resolving the differences between the Senate and House Bill:

Politico: Democrats’ ObamaCare talks collapsing?

Part of the negotiations center on whether Reid can provide an ironclad guarantee that the Senate will not leave the House in the lurch, aides said. If the House agrees to pass the Senate bill with a companion measure — or a “cleanup” bill — to make fixes, they want to know that the Senate will indeed pass it, too.

There was some talk among Senate leadership on Thursday of putting together a letter signed by 51 Democratic senators pledging to pass a cleanup bill if the House would pass the Senate bill. But that effort fizzled when support for it didn’t materialize, insiders said.

“The Senate moderates’ viewpoint is, ‘We passed our bill. We’re not going to spend three weeks on some other bill,’” said a Democratic lobbyist who represents clients pushing for reform.

“There’s a real possibility it doesn’t get through,” said another Democratic lobbyist.

Nancy Pelosi announces the death of ObamaCare in its present form:

This report confirms the obvious—namely, that Obamacare is crumbling before our eyes:

As top Democrats cast doubt for a way to get health care back on track, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took one option off the table Thursday, saying her caucus doesn’t have the stomach to pass the Senate bill unless changes are made. “In its present form, without any change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House,” Pelosi said. “I don’t see the votes for it at this time.  .  . ‘Unease’ would be a gentle word in terms the attitude of my colleagues toward certain provisions of the Senate bill,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday morning.

Speaker Pelosi announces she cannot pass the Senate version of the bill through the House:

There are certain things that, um, members just cannot support. So in its present form without any, uh, change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House…”- Nancy Pelosi

Faced with the prospect of an arrogant one-party government running the country, the people responded the only way they knew how: at the polls. On Tuesday, for the first time in over 30 years, the people of Massachusetts elected a Republican to fill a Democrat’s seat in the Senate thus snatching away that critical 60th vote needed to pass a bill without threat of a GOP filibuster.

Rising Conservative star, Representative Paul Ryan, has revealed the desperate attempt and commitment of the far left to cram this government takeover through Congress, even without the consent or will of the people:

NRO reports:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, tells National Review Online that House Democrats are planning to use the budget-reconciliation process in order to pass Obamacare. “They’re meeting with each other this weekend to pursue it,” says Ryan. “I’ve spoken with many Democrats and the message is this: They’re not ready to give up. They’ve waited their entire adult lives for this moment, and they aren’t ready to let 100,000 pesky votes in Massachusetts get in the way of fulfilling their destiny. They’ll look at every option and spend the next four or five days figuring it out.”

If the Democrats pass a health-care bill through reconciliation, it means they would need only 51 votes in the Senate for final passage. To start the process, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) would need to bring a new health-care bill to the House Budget Committee with reconciliation instructions, with the Senate doing the same.

ObamaCare will not pass in time for the next summer break, our prediction, meaning that the congressmen and senators, now closer to election, and going back to a second round of Town Halls, will have even less of a backbone to do the unthinkable, defy the will of the people, meaning that unless the dems somehow hold on to the house and their 59 to 41 majority, ObamaCare is dead.

It is like watching a team down 49-0 with a quarter of football left to play, still hurling hail mary after hail mary, desperately trying to win.  Rather than resting its star players for the next big game, the left will continue to exhaust its resources, time, money, and dwindling political capital on a losing cause.

Hail freedom, Hail the people.

EDITORIAL: Labor’s unrest adds to Obamacare’s woes: OUR VIEWS ?Cadillac’ plans raise concern

http://insurance.us/news/editorial-labors-unrest-adds-to-obamacares-woes-our-views-cadillac-plans-raise-concern/

THE depth of Obamacare’s problems is illustrated by this week’s visit to the White House by one of the administration’s biggest supporters — Big Labor — which is unhappy with a proposed excise tax on expensive or “Cadillac” health insurance plans to help pay for the $900 billion program.

ObamaCare and the 2010 Elections

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/01/12/yes_republicans_talk_about_health_care_99822.html

Because of our efforts, insurers are now required to cover reconstructive surgery for children with deformities.

Is that what Democratic candidates will say on the stump in 2010? After spending a year explaining the disaster of American health care and pushing for change, they can tout, short-term, only symbolic regulations of the insurance industry - regulations, incidentally, that already exist in many states.

Feingold gets town-hall fury over ObamaCare

Both Politico and local ABC affiliate WISN bury the lede a bit in their coverage of a town-hall meeting conducted by Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) in Milwaukee.  It’s understandable, as the controversy over racially-charged comments by Harry Reid are leading the political news these days.  More significant, though, is the fact that Democrats are still facing town-hall fury over ObamaCare — even presumably safe Democrats like Feingold.

ObamaCare Has Corrupted Both AARP and AMA
Who Have Turned Against Their Members

http://www.redcounty.com/obamacare-has-corrupted-both-aarp-and-ama-who-have-turned-against-their-members/35638

Dr. Lee Hieb, “AMA Doesn’t Speak for Most Doctors” was so strikingly analogous to the plight so recently published by my columns along with others who have taken up the cudgel for our senior citizens in their case against the American Association of Retired Persons…

What the AMA is doing and has done to many of its doctor members (many of whom have also done as AARP members have, by resigning) the AARP has done to its many long-time members. And basically, that is to give them the shaft in favor of drawing favor (and obscene wealth) with the U. S. Government…

Poll: 57% Have ObamaCare Completely Figured Out

http://blogsforvictory.com/2010/01/12/poll-57-have-obamacare-completely-figured-out/

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 17% believe passage of the legislation will achieve the stated goal of reducing health care costs. Fifty-seven percent (57%) think it will lead to higher costs.

Fifty-two percent (52%) also believe passage of the legislation will lead to a decline in the quality of care.

ObamaCare Deathwatch

http://seldomwrong.blogspot.com/2010/01/obamacare-deathwatch.html

Democratic Brahman Charles Rangel says that the nonconference noncommittee deliberations to arrive at a final healthcare revolution are in serious trouble, so expect no bill until February.

By February, this issue will be frozen to death. History, it seems, is calling differently than some understood it to be calling.

ObamaCare and the Commerce Clause

http://reason.com/blog/2010/01/11/obamacare-and-the-commerce-cla

The Wall Street Journal’s Jess Bravin reports on some of the potential constitutional problems with ObamaCare:

Since the New Deal era, the Supreme Court has broadly interpreted congressional authority under the Commerce Clause. Congress has successfully invoked that power to limit the amount of wheat farmers can grow, ban racial discrimination at restaurants and prosecute medical patients for raising marijuana to alleviate their symptoms.

Amishcare Trumps Obamacare

http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/firstthoughts/2010/01/12/amishcare-trumps-obamacare/

If you oppose government-mandated healthcare, there is a way you can opt-out: Become Amish.

Federal health care reform will require most Northern New Yorkers — but not all, it turns out — to carry health insurance or risk a fine.

Hundreds of Amish families in the region are likely to be free from that requirement.

The Amish, as well as some other religious sects, are covered by a “religious conscience” exemption, which allows people with religious objections to insurance to opt out of the mandate. It is in both the House and Senate versions of the bill, making its appearance in the final version routine unless there are last-minute objections.
Are Republican Opponents Of ObamaCare “Traitors”?
http://soundpolitics.com/archives/013652.htmlThat was the argument Seattle talk show host Dave Ross made near the end of his program on December 24th…

…It was not entirely clear why Ross thought that Republicans who oppose ObamaCare are “traitors”, nor did he say whether he thought the large minority of Democrats who also oppose ObamaCare are also “traitors”.  As I understood him — and he didn’t make a very coherent argument — Republicans who oppose ObamaCare are traitors because the plan had so many features that would be wonderful for the country.

ObamaCare Penalizes Marriage

http://doctorbulldog.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/obamacare-penalizes-marriage/

Hidden in President Obama’s health care bill is a huge marriage penalty. Both the Senate and House bills would set up yet another federal program to provide financial incentives to subsidize marriage avoidance and illegitimate offspring.

Even though all evidence shows that marriage is the best remedy for poverty, lack of health care, domestic violence, child abuse and school dropouts, federal welfare programs continue to discriminate against marriage and instead give taxpayer handouts to those who reject marriage.

Wait Till the ObamaCare “Selling” Starts

http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/rubin/216351

Juan Williams says of ObamaCare, which contains, at least in the Senate version, the Cadillac tax on generous benefits that’s likely to smack many union workers, who certainly aren’t rich:

I think it passes, and, it’s interesting, the Democrats are the ones at this point who can stop it, and this kind of discussion doesn’t help. And the question is do the unions get so mad at President Obama and say you didn’t live up to the promises you made to us on the campaign trail. You said this would help the working man, and in fact, this may in a very obvious way penalize working people in the country.
