Iran Gas Emgargo languishes-
A little more than one month ago, the US House of Representatives passed legislation that would ban the exporting of refined gas to Iran in an effort to put pressure on the Iran regime to stop building a nuclear bomb. According to the National Iranian American Alliance, this bill passed with overwhelming support

House Approves Gasoline Embargo
Written by Matt Sugrue
Wednesday, 16 December 2009
Washington, DC - The U.S. House of Representatives last night passed the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (H.R. 2194) by a vote of 412 – 12, with 4 voting present. IRPSA targets Iran’s ability to import refined petroleum, which accounts for up to forty percent of the petroleum consumed in the country. Speaking in support of the sanctions bill, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), said “we must impose sanctions so painful they threaten the [Iranian] regime’s survival.”
The overriding opinion expressed by supporters of IRPSA was that sanctions are necessary as a result of failure to reach a diplomatic solution since talks began in October. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) supported H.R. 2194 saying that Iran has ignored the nuclear enrichment offers put forward by the P5+1 countries, and, therefore, the time has come for “the international community to consider stronger options.”

With the election of Scott Brown, and now the opening up of the politcal war coffers on the right through the death of Mccain-Feingold, dems are running scared from their own far left agenda. Witness the recent machinations in the ObamaCare wars.
Pelosi has announced she can’t pass the Senate bill through the House. Barney Frank, whose MA district voted for Scott Brown, is calling for a reboot, and they are now down to the last desperate act, but one that will, in essense, require them to take ObamaCare through both the House and the Senate again, reconciliation.
Here was their attempt to cram the bill through the House to avoid resolving the differences between the Senate and House Bill:

Politico: Democrats’ ObamaCare talks collapsing?
Part of the negotiations center on whether Reid can provide an ironclad guarantee that the Senate will not leave the House in the lurch, aides said. If the House agrees to pass the Senate bill with a companion measure — or a “cleanup” bill — to make fixes, they want to know that the Senate will indeed pass it, too.
There was some talk among Senate leadership on Thursday of putting together a letter signed by 51 Democratic senators pledging to pass a cleanup bill if the House would pass the Senate bill. But that effort fizzled when support for it didn’t materialize, insiders said.
“The Senate moderates’ viewpoint is, ‘We passed our bill. We’re not going to spend three weeks on some other bill,’” said a Democratic lobbyist who represents clients pushing for reform.
“There’s a real possibility it doesn’t get through,” said another Democratic lobbyist.

Nancy Pelosi announces the death of ObamaCare in its present form:
This report confirms the obvious—namely, that Obamacare is crumbling before our eyes:
As top Democrats cast doubt for a way to get health care back on track, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took one option off the table Thursday, saying her caucus doesn’t have the stomach to pass the Senate bill unless changes are made. “In its present form, without any change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House,” Pelosi said. “I don’t see the votes for it at this time. . . ‘Unease’ would be a gentle word in terms the attitude of my colleagues toward certain provisions of the Senate bill,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday morning.

Speaker Pelosi announces she cannot pass the Senate version of the bill through the House:

There are certain things that, um, members just cannot support. So in its present form without any, uh, change, I don’t think it’s possible to pass the Senate bill in the House…”- Nancy Pelosi
Faced with the prospect of an arrogant one-party government running the country, the people responded the only way they knew how: at the polls. On Tuesday, for the first time in over 30 years, the people of Massachusetts elected a Republican to fill a Democrat’s seat in the Senate thus snatching away that critical 60th vote needed to pass a bill without threat of a GOP filibuster.
From:
http://sandrarose.com/2010/01/22/obamacare-crashes-and-burns/
Rising Conservative star, Representative Paul Ryan, has revealed the desperate attempt and commitment of the far left to cram this government takeover through Congress, even without the consent or will of the people:
NRO reports:
Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, tells National Review Online that House Democrats are planning to use the budget-reconciliation process in order to pass Obamacare. “They’re meeting with each other this weekend to pursue it,” says Ryan. “I’ve spoken with many Democrats and the message is this: They’re not ready to give up. They’ve waited their entire adult lives for this moment, and they aren’t ready to let 100,000 pesky votes in Massachusetts get in the way of fulfilling their destiny. They’ll look at every option and spend the next four or five days figuring it out.”
If the Democrats pass a health-care bill through reconciliation, it means they would need only 51 votes in the Senate for final passage. To start the process, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) would need to bring a new health-care bill to the House Budget Committee with reconciliation instructions, with the Senate doing the same.

ObamaCare will not pass in time for the next summer break, our prediction, meaning that the congressmen and senators, now closer to election, and going back to a second round of Town Halls, will have even less of a backbone to do the unthinkable, defy the will of the people, meaning that unless the dems somehow hold on to the house and their 59 to 41 majority, ObamaCare is dead.
It is like watching a team down 49-0 with a quarter of football left to play, still hurling hail mary after hail mary, desperately trying to win. Rather than resting its star players for the next big game, the left will continue to exhaust its resources, time, money, and dwindling political capital on a losing cause.
Hail freedom, Hail the people.

This may be the end of Obamacare. Or there may be some quick moves in Congress before Massachusetts’ new senator is seated. If that happens, just wait until November.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/27/faced-with-bad-health-car_n_245624.html
Slightly after noon on an otherwise slow-news Saturday, journalists began turning their attention to a Congressional Budget Office analysis released earlier that morning detailing how an independent panel could affect Medicare spending.
A little-known Republican shook up the balance of power in Washington by winning a U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts, a result that imperils President Barack Obama’s top legislative priorities and points to trouble for his party in this year’s midterm elections.
http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/jan/20/gut-chec/?newswatch
Abandoning the health-care overhaul is not an option, a senior White House official said today, after President Barack Obama’s top domestic initiative took a devastating hit with the Democratic loss of the Massachusetts Senate seat.
http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Daily-Reports/2010/January/20/NBC-WSJ-Poll.aspx
MSNBC reports that “the American public has grown increasingly skeptical over [Obama’s] promises to change Washington and his ‘yes-we-can’ agenda, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. … Only 33 percent say that Obama’s health care plan is a good idea, compared with 46 percent who believe it’s a bad one.
http://spectator.org/blog/2010/01/19/barney-frank-deals-potential-d
Rep. Barney Frank is not a wobbly moderate in a marginal district, but a liberal Democrat who has been supportive of the health care push. And that’s why this statement below, which essentially rules out all of the options being discussed for pushing through Obamacare, deals a potentially fatal blow to the legislation.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703837004575013120573610774.html#sgp
The question now is how Democrats will respond to this historic election rebuke. Only a fleeting supermajority and corrupt logrolling has allowed ObamaCare to advance as far as it has, but many liberals will be tempted to keep telling voters to shut up and learn to like what Democrats give them. “Let’s remove all doubt,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters this week. “We will have health care one way or another.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/20/AR2010012001599.html
Majority Leader Harry Reid says Senate Democrats will press ahead with President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul despite the loss of a Massachusetts Senate seat to a Republican.
Throughout the Massachusetts Senate race, we heard the number “41″ repeated over and over — as in Scott Brown would become the 41st Republican senator, whose presence would deprive Democrats of a filibuster-proof majority and stop President Obama’s national health care plan. But now that Brown actually is the 41st GOP senator, the most important number in politics is 218 — as in, can House Speaker Nancy Pelosi amass a majority of 218 votes for House Democrats to pass the health care bill already approved by the Senate, thus sending it to Obama’s desk to be signed into law.

The Things the Democrats Would Like You to Forget About Candidate Coakley…
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978003087
While we all wait on the much anticipated Massachusetts election exit polls, I thought I’d share one Massachusetts woman’s perspective on why I still believeMartha Coakley is going to deliver an (undeserved) win today…
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/18/saving-health-care-if-mar_n_427061.html
It would simply be nuts to think letting the bill die is the best move. Both houses already cast a vote. The marginal cost of one more vote is miniscule, compared with the cost of letting the bill die — an even more demoralized base, the stench of failure attaching itself to everything Obama and this Congress do from here to November. Not to mention the massive substantive achievement at stake.

She’s Irish, she’s a woman and she’s a democract. In a left leaning state like Massachusetts, what’s not to love about Martha Coakley? Everything it seems.

Coakley should be the heavy favorite and she’s not, because she failed to wage an aggressive campaign early on

The Senate race in Massachusetts has taken an ugly turn.A video is circulating in which Republican Scott Brown seemingly smiles at a violent, sexist taunt directed at his Democratic challenger Martha Coakley at a rally.
Saying that “the stakes of this election could not be higher” Martha Coakley today highlighted her record of standing up and fighting for the people of Massachusetts and reiterated her belief that our Commonwealth cannot take a step backward by returning to the failed policies of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney…

Speaking to reporters last night after rallying union members for today’s election, Democrat Martha Coakley said her campaign thinks polls showing Republican Scott Brown leading the race are inaccuarate, Hotline OnCall’s Felicia Sonmez reports.

Martha Coakley is to the left of Nancy Pelosi, and will insist that abortion be funded by taxpayers. Here is the proof, from Huffington Post
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/taylor-marsh/can-martha-coakley-beat-p_b_380088.htmlI have no idea why Politico chose to frame the Massachusetts race for Ted Kennedy’s seat as it “fizzles,” because Coakley’s is another voice very important to the larger debate on health care, which makes this special election next Tuesday actually very important. Especially with senators like Ben Nelson and Russ Feingold choosing just yesterday to vote against women, which inspired a very terse remark to Feingold’s office from me.
Coakley on the importance of retaining women’s access to full reproductive health care. (editor’s note- this is about ADDING to abortion rights by forcing taxpayers to pay for it)
Coakley was more explicit at a debate Tuesday when an opponent, Celtics co-owner and former private equity executive Steven Pagliuca, criticized her for having said she would have opposed the House-passed health care bill because of the abortion restrictions it included.
“Steve,” Coakley responded, before pausing for a moment. “It’s personal with me, and it’s personal with every woman who’s in this, who’s watching this.”Do you think it is personal to you that Martha Coakley wants to force you to pay for the murder of babies through ObamaCare?

Ouch. Coakley’s Husband’s Old Work Buddies Endorse Scott Brown- Slam Martha Coakley
Friday, January 15, 2010, 8:52 PM
Jim Hoft
Today Tom’s old work buddies the Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association slammed Martha Coakley for assuming they supporter her and endorsed Scott Brown for United States Senator.
Legal Insurrection reported the news.

The 212 member Cambridge Police Patrol Officers Association voted to endorse State Senator Scott Brown for United States Senator in next Tuesday’s election against Attorney General Martha Coakley. CPSOA’s President released the following letter today:
All Members,
Members of our Association have inquired and requested that we endorse Scott Brown in the upcoming election against Martha Coakley. Ms. Coakley along with some of her campaign workers have talked publicly about how her husband is a retired Cambridge Police Officer, giving appearances that she is being endorsed by the Cambridge Police. This may be an innocent insinuation but most do take this as our giving her our support and endorsement. Yesterday, the CPPOA Executive Board voted to endorse State Senator Scott Brown in the upcoming election for US Senate. In an 11 to 2 vote, the Executive Board voted overwhelmingly in favor of the endorsement. We do not endorse anyone who advocates changes in the health care that take away any bargaining rights or increases our cost along with our contributions. Senator Brown does not support the Comprehensive Healthcare Reform Bill and promises to be the 41st vote to ensure its defeat.

1-13-10 Politics- Top Story- Brown v Coakley- ObamaCare showdown in Massachusetts election
Is it time for Democrats to start panicking?
http://campaigndiaries.com/2010/01/12/democrats-dial-up-volume-in-massachussetts-special/
A new Rasmussen poll finds Martha Coakley leading by only 2% (49% to 47%). This is the first time we can consider trendlines (Rasmussen is the first pollster to release a second poll, and this is where things get scary for Democrats: Coakley led by 9% 10 days ago, so all the momentum is definitely on Scott Brown’s side. Yet more confirmation that the Attorney General is caught in a downward spiral comes from Marc Ambinder’s Twitter account: “FWIW, internal Democratic tracking in MA last week had Coakley up 15. Today, she’s up by five.” Suddenly, PPP has a lot of company - and it’s The Boston Globe that’s looking isolated.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley attracting 49% of the vote while her Republican rival, state Senator Scott Brown, picks up 47%.
Three percent (3%) say they’ll vote for independent candidate Joe Kennedy, and two percent (2%) are undecided. The independent is no relation to the late Edward M. Kennedy, whose Senate seat the candidates are battling to fill in next Tuesday’s election.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/lachlan-markay/2010/01/12/its-not-kennedys-seat-its-not-democrats-seat-its-peoples-seat#ixzz0cVsiu3Xp
The death of Ted Kennedy hit the liberal media particularly hard. NBC’s Andrea Mitchell caught the mood of the nation’s pundits when she said the “heavens were weeping” during Kennedy’s funeral. Now that Kennedy is dead, some pundits feel as if Democrats are entitled to the seat he left vacant.
CNN senior political analyst David Gergen had to be reminded of this fact Monday as he moderated a debate between the two candidates for Massachusetts’s open Senate seat. He asked Republican candidate Scott Brown whether he’d be willing to “sit in Teddy Kennedy’s seat and [say] I’m going to be the person who’s going to block it [liberal health care policy] for another 15 years.”
But Brown, refusing to take for granted Gergen’s blatantly left-wing premises, responded instead: “Well, with all due respect it’s not the Kennedys’ seat, and it’s not the Democrats’ seat, it’s the people’s seat.” (video and transcript below the fold - h/t Kerry Picket)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/lobbyists-hosting-martha-_n_421114.html
Washington Examiner:
With Democrat Martha Coakley in trouble in the Massachusetts special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s seat, Democrats could lose vote No. 60 for President Obama’s health-care bill. In response, an army of lobbyists for drug companies, health insurance companies, and hospitals has teamed up to throw a high-dollar Capitol Hill fundraiser for Coakley next Tuesday night.
